Content is all around you

I know that content creation can feel overwhelming and time-consuming, but it doesn’t have to be! Your everyday life is full of moments to capture that will connect you with your audience and build trust. I know you’re probably thinking to yourself something along the lines of, “Really? Capturing the chaos of my house with the unfolded laundry, the dishes piled up, the kids covered in snot and probably doing something they’re not supposed to be doing…?” or “Really? Typing a novel on my computer can’t look THAT exciting when I post the same thing everyday?”

Yeah, those are thoughts I’ve had, which is why they’ve made it here to this blog post. I’ve been a content creator and social media manager for well over a decade. Trained as a journalist, I KNOW there is a story everywhere, but for some reason the story couldn’t possibly be at home in my own life. I mean, how could it be? I was just a mom to a toddler. Except. That. Is. Exactly. The. Story.

You see, your audience wants to connect with YOU, not some curated images. Even with the accounts where we post mostly designed graphics, our followers are sending DMs and commenting to connect WITH the account holder. So, if you’re not great at creating graphics and you don’t feel like your life is particularly exciting, that’s ok. I’m still going to be able to help you find your content.

Let’s dive into how you can turn everyday moments into valuable content for your business!

Why Everyday Life is a Goldmine for Content

You might be thinking, “I don’t have anything special to share,” but trust me—you do! People turn to social media because they’re craving connection. They want to peek into someone else’s life, to find comfort, or to disconnect from their own stress. Your audience isn’t just looking for fancy, polished content—they want realness, relatability, and authenticity. (Yes, I know I just said this in much longer words. But I wanted to reiterate with this quotable bite of content.)

You don’t need original or earth-shattering ideas to create engaging content. It’s about how you articulate those ideas and share your everyday moments. Those small, real moments are what bring your audience closer to you. Remember, social media is about being SOCIAL!

Making Connections: Social Media is All About Relatability

Especially with the ways that TikTok has torn down walls on curation – you literally could film yourself washing your face and chatting – like with a friend – and people eat it up!

Social media is your chance to be social and connect with people in their everyday life. Your goal isn’t to be perfect but to be relatable and approachable. Whether it’s a short video of you making your morning coffee, setting up your workspace for the day, or even taking a walk—these moments build trust with your audience. Think of your audience as someone who you want to be your friend – and they want to be your friend, too!

Remember, people are looking to connect, not just to be informed. So when you’re feeling stuck or unsure of what to share, think about the little moments in your life that you can turn into content. (And later, we’ll talk about how we can use AI tools to actually hone those little moments into content that drives people beyond the social aspect of social media.)

Simple Ideas for Everyday Life Type Content

You don’t need elaborate setups or hours of planning. Here are a few simple content ideas that you can pull from your daily life:

  • A quick video of you brewing your coffee in the morning.
  • Time-lapse of setting up your desk for the workday.
  • A glimpse of a client call (with permission!).
  • Recording a video of the rain falling outside and using it as a background for an inspiring message.

Reusing Content for Maximum Reach

The beauty of everyday content is that it’s versatile! That short clip of you making coffee? Use it again with a different caption, overlay new text, or swap out the audio. You can turn one piece of content into several posts just by changing up a few elements. That’s the power of repurposing—one video or image can become multiple pieces of content, saving you time and energy.

Here’s a quick tip that my friend Elizabeth Chambers recently shared on Instagram — If you’re filming straight in the Instagram or TikTok apps, be sure to download your content BEFORE you add captions or stickers or anything. That saves it to your phone as a higher quality video and without any watermarks.

Your daily life is your greatest asset when it comes to creating content that connects with your audience. You don’t need perfection—you just need to be yourself and share those relatable moments. So grab your phone, start recording, and get ready to engage your audience in a whole new way!
